2006 Ford Engine-6.0L Powerstroke diesel
F-250 Transmission-automatic
A nagging coolant consumption issue was the hint of bigger problems with this Powerstroke. An incorrectly machined block caused the leak between the block and the cylinder head. Over time, the coolant washed away the lubricating oil; this caused the cylinder to wear excessively, eventually resulting in a failed piston and head gasket. The engine was out of warranty, so the choice was a new engine, or rebuilding. Since this engine was well maintained and in otherwise pretty good condition, we were able to rebuild it for less than the cost of a new engine. After rebuild, it starts quickly and cleanly, and revs with authority!
